SCMP's COVID-19 VACCINATION PROGRAM
(as at 2 MAY 2022)
- The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) are currently recommending booster shots for people over 16 years of age THREE months after their second dose. The booster dose will preferentially be with the Pfizer (Comirnaty) vaccine. SCMP is no longer running general booster vaccination clinics on Saturdays, and patients will now need to visit SERH to obtain their COVID vaccinations.
- ATAGI have approved the Pfizer (Comirnaty) vaccine for children aged 5 to 11 years old. It is recommended that 2 doses are given 8 weeks apart. SCMP is no longer providing COVID-19 Paediatric vaccinations, and children will now need to visit SERH to obtain their COVID vaccination.
- ATAGI have recommended a third primary dose and fourth booster COVID-19 vaccines for certain groups of people who are immunocompromised.
- ATAGI recently recommended (Friday 25th March) an additional winter booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine (four months after initial booster dose) to increase vaccine protection before winter for selected groups who are at greatest risk of severe illness from COVID-19 and who have received their primary vaccination and first booster dose. These groups are those:
- Adults aged 65 years and older
- Residents of aged care or disability care facilities
- People aged 16 years and older who are severely immunocompromised
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 50 years and older.
- You can get your COVID-19 and flu vaccines at the same time. At SCMP, those eligible adults who are *over 65 years of age only* will be able to get their winter booster dose at the same time as their flu vaccination during our April/May Fluvax Clinics at both Bega and Tathra Surgeries. Other eligible patients who are under 65 years of age will need to visit the South East Regional Hospital vaccination hub to receive their winter booster dose.
- SCMP is no longer providing COVID-19 AstraZeneca (Vaxzevria) Vaccinations at our surgeries. They are available at the South East Regional Hospital vaccination hub.
- We strongly encourage EVERYONE who is eligible, to receive the vaccination as soon as possible.
- Please be reassured the vaccine available to this group of patients, is safe and effective and will provide protection from COVID-19 for both us as individuals and to our whole community.
- We will continue to provide information here on our website, the SCMP Facebook page and at our surgeries.
